LGSHSD Fall Sports Update 2022

CCS Champions and League Finalists, Los Gatos HS & Saratoga HS Sports Finish Season Strong

Los Gatos, November 9, 2022:
Both Los Gatos and Saratoga High Schools Fall Sports program ended the season incredibly strong, qualifying for several playoffs and championships in their respective sport.  


“Our after-school sports program is second to none,” shared Bill W. Sanderson, Superintendent of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District. “These athletes are learning important life skills, while benefiting through physical health and stress management, all while maintaining impressive academic benchmarks. I am so proud of each of these individual athletes and teams.”

Saratoga High School


Cross Country

The XC team competed in the SCVAL De Anza league finals at Crystal Springs on Tuesday.  Both the girls JV and Boys FS teams came in 4th place.  The Varsity girls came in 6th and the Varsity Boys 5th place overall. Well done!

Field Hockey (Girls)

The Falcons finished in 6th place in the De Anza League and made it to the 2nd round of CCS.

Football

Both the Varsity and FS football teams defeated Lynbrook High School  to wrap up the season. The Varsity team score was 11-6 and the FS 26-6.

Golf (Girls)

Sarah Lim finished 1st in the SCVAL league tournament shooting a 68. 9th grader, Millie Wang qualified for the NorCal regional golf tournament in Berkeley, CA. Millie finished in 4th place at NorCals shooting a 75 which qualified her for the California State Finals at San Gabriel CC in Southern California. Millie shot an 83 at finals which placed her 40th in the state!

Tennis (Girls)

The Falcons finished 2nd place in the El Camino League. Sabrina Manea finished 3rd overall in the SCVAL!

Volleyball (Girls)

The  #10 Falcons defeated  #7 El Camino in the first round of CCS playoffs. The women were down 2-0 and came 

back and won 3 straight sets. In the 2nd round of CCS the Falcons took on #2 seed Soquel HS.

Water Polo (Boys)

The Varsity team finished in 6th place in the El Camino division.

Los Gatos High School


Cross Country

Both the Varsity Boys and Girls won the DeAnza League Championship. The Boys Cross Country team won CCS for the first time since 2014 while the Girls team finished in 4th place.  The JV girls team were also league champions while the boys finished in 2nd place. The boys team qualified for the State Championship meet where they finished in 15th place in the State of California with Aydon Stefanopoulus taking home the 5th place medal overall and an individual.

Field Hockey (Girls)

Girls Varsity won their 11th consecutive league title and were the #1 seed in the playoffs. The Girls lost a heartbreaker to Mitty in the Semifinals by a score of 1-0. They are currently ranked #3 in the state of California and #20 in the Nation. The JV team finished in 3rd place

Unweighted Varsity Team GPA- 3.591

Football

Football won the DeAnza division league title for the 3rd year in a row and are the #3 seed in the Division 1 playoffs. The team lost to Mitty in overtime by a score of 29-28 in the CCS playoffs. They finished the year ranked #5 in the Central Coast Section. The JV team also won the league championship for the 3rd consecutive year. The Freshman Football team finished 8-2 and defeated both Bellarmine and Saint Francis (the WCAL Freshman football Champions). This year's graduating seniors have never lost a league game in their 4 years at Los Gatos, a feat which has not been accomplished in over twenty years. More impressive, this group of seniors finished with an overall regular season record of 31-4 in their 4 years in the program.

Golf (Girls)

Girls Golf won the El Camino Division League Championship and qualified for the CCS playoffs.

Unweighted Varsity Team GPA- 3.714  

Tennis (Girls)

Girls Tennis won the El Camino Division League Championship and were the #8 seed out of of 32 teams in the CCS Championships.

Unweighted Varsity Team GPA- 3.797  

Volleyball (Girls)

Girls Volleyball finished in 3rd place the DeAnza division and were the #6 seed in the CCS Division 1 playoffs.

Unweighted Varsity Team GPA 3.598 

Water Polo (Boys)

Boys Water Polo finished 3rd in the De Anza Division and were the #8 seed in the CCS Open Division Playoffs. This was the first year the boys program has ever qualified for Open Division.

Unweighted Varsity Team GPA- 3.548  (35 total participants)

Water Polo (Girls)

Girls Water Polo went undefeated in league play for the first time en route to their 8th consecutive De Anza Division Title. They were the #4 seed in the CCS Open Division playoffs and qualified for the NorCal Regional playoffs for the first time in program history. The Girls defeated Granite Bay in the first round of the playoffs but fell to Arroyo Grande High School in the semifinals.
