Legal Notices

The Los Gatos – Saratoga Union High School District strives at all time to ensure that our community is informed about their rights and responsibilities.  To support that awareness, we have included a variety of resources addressing specific issues:

AB 1575 - Fees

AB 1575, Pupil Fees, restates existing law which prohibits a school from requiring a pupil to pay a fee, deposit or other charge not specifically authorized by law, for participation in an educational activity.  AB 1575 further provides that a complaint regarding pupil fees may be filed with the principal of a school under the Uniform Complaint Procedures (UCP).

AB 256 - Bullying/Social Media

AB 256 was recently enacted and amends Sections 48900 and 48900.4 of the Education Code.  This legislation provides “that conduct constituting bullying by means of an electronic act, even if the conduct originated from an off-campus location, is considered conduct related to a school activity or school attendance and a student may be suspended or expelled for this conduct.”  The Legislative Counsel further allows “a pupil to be suspended or expelled if the superintendent or principal determines that the pupil has intentionally engaged in bullying by means of an electronic act, directed against school personnel or pupils, whether or not the act relates to a school activity or attendance.”

The legal and legislative landscape surrounding electronic acts of bullying and social media is complex and evolving.  However, throughout it all, our priority is the safety of our students and staff.  We will continue to work to ensure students feel safe and connected and provide resources and education to that end.  And, we will continue to monitor and keep you abreast of any changes to the law that impact this arena.  I also encourage your input and concerns.  I can be reached at
