About the Budget Oversight Committee

The Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District Budget Advisory Committee (“BAC” or “Committee”) advises the Board of Trustees on the District’s budget. The Committee’s duties and membership are guided by Board Policy 3100 and Administrative Regulation 3100.

The Committee serves as a source of information for interested parents, students, and community organizations to foster deeper understanding and promote public participation. Meetings are open to the general public, and meeting agendas and minutes are posted on this website. The BAC is required to follow the Brown Act.

Budget Advisory Committee Details

The Budget Advisory Committee advises the Board of Trustees on the District’s budget and helps keep the District’s funding and financial planning transparent. At least once a year, the Board gives the Committee direction on which areas to focus on. The Committee’s responsibilities may include:

  • Making recommendations on budget priorities and cost reduction strategies;
  • Reviewing the clarity and effectiveness of budget documents and communications;
  • Presenting progress reports and a final report of recommendations to the Superintendent and the Board;
  • Helping educate the community about the budgeting process.

All recommendations are advisory only and are not binding on the Board or the Superintendent. The Committee has seven to eleven voting members, including parents/guardians, staff, bargaining unit representatives, students, and community members. The Parcel Tax Oversight Committee and the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee may each appoint one member.

The Board of Trustees of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District is seeking qualified, interested individuals to serve on a committee of community leaders that will serve on the Budget Advisory Committee. This committee advises the Board on the District’s budget and plays a vital role in ensuring transparency and public understanding of the District’s funding and financial planning.

If you’re interested in serving on this important committee for a two-year term, please complete the Application. The committee meets at least four times a year. Meetings are typically scheduled between 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on a weekday.
