Seal of Civic Engagement
The State Seal of Civic Engagement was created by the CA Legislature in 2017 through the passage of Assembly Bill 24. The SSCE is awarded to students who have demonstrated excellence in civics education and participation, as well as an understanding of the following: The United States Constitution, The California Constitution, and the democratic system of government. The State Board of Education identified five criteria for the SSCE to provide local educational agencies (LEAs) with a framework for making determinations of student qualifications required to earn the award, based on their own local contexts. LGSUHSD convened a committee of students and community members to develop the local criteria within the framework provided by the state.
