Positive Community Norms Project Team

Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District has partnered with the Town of Los Gatos and the Los Gatos Union School District to bring Positive Community Norms (PCN) Intervention to reduce alcohol use in the Los Gatos community. Led by The Montana Institute (TMI), the belief shared is that we can increase the health and safety of Los Gatos youth by focusing on the alcohol related norms we want to grow instead of the behaviors we want to prevent.

The Positive Community Norms Project Team

In February of 2023, interested parents, students, staff, and community members applied to join the Positive Community Norms Project Team, a group dedicated to improving the health and safety of Los Gatos youth by focusing on the alcohol related norms we want to grow instead of the behaviors we want to prevent. This approach has been applied in communities across the country to correct misperceptions of norms and increase rates of non-use. This team is in place to help ensure fidelity to the Positive Community Norms best practices, assist in the development of campaign materials, and prepare for future project sustainability.

Surveying the Community

In partnership with the Los Gatos Union School District and the Town of Los Gatos, the district conducted a Positive Community Norms survey throughout the month of October 2023. Given to students, staff, and parents, this is the first time that the district conducted this important survey. The results will be used in programs to keep Los Gatos students safe and healthy.
