Parcel Tax Oversight Committee
On May 3, 2011 voters in the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District demonstrated their support for our students and our schools by passing Measure A - a district parcel tax of $49/parcel, designed to provide a source of locally controlled funding to be used to continue to provide a top quality education for our students.
Measure A stated explicitly "the Board of Education will establish a process for independent citizen oversight." The committee has been charged with reviewing expenditure reports and ensuring Measure A funds are spent for the following purposes, stipulated by the Measure:
- Provide support for core academic programs such as math, science and English;
- Attract and retain highly qualified teachers;
- Maintain college and career preparation programs;
- Provide classroom materials such as books and science laboratory equipment.
PARCEL TAX EXTENSION: Voters approved a “no tax increase” extension of the high school district’s $49/parcel tax in May 2016. This will be in effect for eight years, beginning July 2017, i.e., through 2025.
As part of the district’s commitment to accountability and transparency, the district has created an independent citizens’ Oversight Committee which annually reviews the District’s compliance with the terms of Measure A. The committee includes parents/guardians and community members.
