Meet the Superintendent

MatsuokaMr. Cary Matsuoka began his tenure as Superintendent for the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District on October 1, 2006.  He came to the District from nearby Fremont Union High School District where he had served as high school principal, district coordinator of guidance and assessment, and high school assistant principal.  He is also a returning “staff alumnus” of our district, having previously taught Science and Computer Science at Saratoga High School from 1984-1997.

Mr. Matsuoka earned a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition Science from the University of California at Davis and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from San Jose State University.  A native of California, he grew up in Torrance.  He and his wife Polly live in Santa Cruz.  Two of their three sons graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles.  Daniel graduated with a degree in History and is currently attending seminary in preparation for pastoral ministry.  Andrew is currently a graduate student in Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin.   Their youngest son, Stephen, is a senior at UCLA and will graduate this June with a double major in International Development Studies and Economics.

As an educator, Mr. Matsuoka is focused on the development of young adults.  He believes in educating the whole child, supporting their intellectual, emotional, and interpersonal development.  He is committed to collaboration and communication among all stakeholders, including teachers, parents, community members and students.    To that end, he welcomes your input and can be reached at 354-6401 or at cmatsuoka@lgsuhsd.org.
