Mr. Cary Matsuoka began his tenure as Superintendent for the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District on October 1, 2006. He came to the District from nearby Fremont Union High School District where he had served as high school principal, district coordinator of guidance and assessment, and high school assistant principal. He is also a returning “staff alumnus” of our district, having previously taught Science and Computer Science at Saratoga High School from 1984-1997.
Mr. Matsuoka earned a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition Science from the University of California at Davis and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from San Jose State University. A native of California, he grew up in Torrance and now lives with his wife Polly in Santa Cruz. Their three sons graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles. Daniel graduated with a degree in History and is currently attending seminary in preparation for pastoral ministry. Andrew went on to receive a graduate degree in Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin and will be moving to New York to pursue a career in software engineering. Their youngest son, Stephen, just graduated from UCLA with a double major in International Development Studies and Economics and will be applying to medical school.
As an educator, Mr. Matsuoka is focused on the development of young adults. He believes in educating the whole child, supporting their intellectual, emotional, and interpersonal development. Recent areas of focus include the integration of technology across the curriculum and the "greening" of our schools. He is committed to collaboration and communication among all stakeholders, including teachers, parents, community members and students. To that end, he welcomes your input and can be reached at 354-6401 or at cmatsuoka@lgsuhsd.org.
