The NOVA Alternative Program

Nova is an alternative program for students of the Los Gatos-Saratoga High School District. There are many goals within the Nova program. As a transition program, Nova seeks to provide students with a chance to meet their individual challenges and take responsibility for those challenges. For some students, the goal is improved attendance and study skills; for other students, the goal may be anger management and behavioral responsibility. For all students, the goal is to develop a love of learning.
The curriculum consists of a three-period core class, which includes English, Social Sciences and Science. Core instruction is thematic in nature. Students learn about a particular topic thoroughly. For example, if the “theme” were to be the Italian Renaissance, students would study Italian history, the scientific discoveries of the period, and also read literature of that period. Art, math, PE, and work experience are available. Students attend for six periods.
We believe that a positive school environment fosters academic and life-skills accomplishments and builds self-confidence and improved performance.

For more information, please contact your student's advisor or email the Nova registrar.

Middle College Program

The Middle College is a high school alternative for juniors and seniors. It offers students with college potential the opportunity to complete their high school requirements on the campus of West Valley College. The Program empowers students by giving them choices and treating them as adults. Designed to provide a supportive yet challenging adult educational setting, students will take college level courses while completing high school graduation requirements. This new educational environment will provide students with an opportunity to stimulate their academic development and spark their quest for learning.
