Meet the Board
Cynthia Chang: Term Expires: 2010 (Appointed in lieu of election 1998 and 2002 and reelected 2006) is a self-employed CPA. She holds an MBA from California State University, Los Angeles. Mrs. Chang was a member of the Saratoga Union School District from 1994-98 and served as Treasurer for both the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District and the Saratoga Union Elementary School District school facility measures campaigns (1997 and 1998). She is Past President of the Asian Pacific Islander School Boards Members Association and serves on the Executive Board of “Building Bridges,” a Saratoga city-wide project. Ms. Chang represents the Board on the MetroEd Board of Trustees, the District’s Diversity Task Force and serves as a Board Liaison on the District’s Budget Advisory Committee. She is on the Board for the Saratoga High School Foundation.
| | | Roger M. Mason, President, Term Expires: 2010 (Elected November, 2006) is an attorney and a shareholder with the law firm Sweeney, Mason, Wilson and Bosomworth in Los Gatos. His three children have attended school in both the Los Gatos Union School District and the Los Gatos – Saratoga Union High School District. Mr. Mason is active in the community, serving on various boards including the Los Gatos – Saratoga Community Education and Recreation Board and as the President of the Lions Cub. He also represents the District as a member of the KCAT Board and currently serves as Liaison to the District’s Health Benefits Advisory Committee. |
| | | | Rosemary Rossi, Vice - President, Term Expires: 2012, (Elected in November, 2008 and 2004) is a retired high school science teacher. She has been active in public education since 1997 serving as a school board member and president of the Home and School Association in Lower Merion, Pennsylvania. Ms. Rossi is the parent of four children, three of whom graduated from Saratoga High School. She has served as co-president of the Saratoga High School PTSA, a member of the PTSA Board, member of the Saratoga School Site Council and as co-president of Saratoga-Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Newcomers Club. She serves as a Board Liaison on the District’s Budget Advisory Committee. |
| | | | Michele H. van Zuiden, Member, Term Expires: 2010, (Elected in November 2006), is the Executive Director of The Women’s Hospital of El Camino in Mountain View, CA and has more than 25 years of experience as a business executive. She holds an MBA from UCLA and has been a resident of Los Gatos and Monte Sereno for 22 years. She has two children who both graduated from Los Gatos High School. Ms. Van Zuiden is a Court Appointed Child Advocate in Santa Clara County, served on the Board of the Los Gatos High School New Millennium Foundation for seven years and was the Endowment Chair for the Los Gatos Education Foundation. Ms. van Zuiden represents the Trustees and is on the Executive Committee of the Santa Clara County School Boards’ Association and serves as a Board Liaison on the District’s Health Benefits Advisory Committee. |
| | | | Lorrie Wernick,Ed.D, Clerk, Term Expires: 2012, (Elected November, 2008, 2004 and 1996 and appointed in lieu of election November, 2000) is a thirty four year resident of the District and is the parent of three children, all of whom graduated from Los Gatos High School. She is currently Principal of William Regnart Elementary School. She has served as Director of Special Education for the Cupertino Union School District; Director of Special Education for Loma Prieta School District and Principal of C.T. English and Thomas Russell Middle Schools. Dr. Wernick is past President of the Lakeside Community Foundation and past Chairman of the Board of Los Gatos-Saratoga Observation Nursery School and served as Vice President of the Board of San Jose Chamber Music Society for eight years. She also represented the District on the Institute of Computer Technology Board. |
Jennifer Heath, a junior at Los Gatos High School, has been participating in student government for the past two years and has served as both class treasurer and class secretary. She is currently in the Leadership class at LGHS and is involved with CASC (the California Association of Student Councils), a nonprofit, student-run organization that provides resources and training to young leaders. Jenny is an honors student/principal’s scholar, a member of the speech and debate team, and is on staff of El Gato, the school’s newspaper. Outside school, she plays the violin and is a member of the California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. She has also participated in the CODA Honors Orchestra and the All-State Honors Orchestra. She also finds time to be with friends and family, read, take pictures, eat/sleep and give hugs. She is excited to represent Los Gatos High as Student Representative to the Board.
Natalie Tkalcevic, a senior at Saratoga High School, is honored to serve as the Student Board Representative for the next school year. Outgoing and committed to her school, she is looking forward to working with the Board to make Saratoga High a happier, more student-friendly environment. An outstanding student, Natalie is also involved with ASB and the school's theater department where she performs and works behind the scenes as a costume designer. Natalie is also a lover of music, singing in Saratoga's concert choir and learing to play guitar. Outside school, Natalie participates as an active member on Saratoga's Youth Commission and is a busy volunteer in the community. She loves spending her spare time with her friends and family, supporting environmental causes and adding to her collection of peace signs. Hoping her future will bring her a career in leadership, Natalie is excited to be serving Saratoga students as Board Representative for the 2009- 2010 school year.
