Meet the Board

chang.jpgCynthia Chang:  President.  Term Expires: 2014 (Appointed in lieu of election 1998 and 2002 and reelected 2006 and 2010) is a self-employed CPA.  She holds an MBA from California State University, Los Angeles.  Ms. Chang was a member of the Saratoga Union School District Board from 1994-98 and served as Treasurer for both the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District and the Saratoga Union School District school facility measures campaigns (1997 and 1998).  She is past President of the Asian Pacific Islander School Board Members Association and served on the Executive Board of “Building Bridges,” a Saratoga Rotary Club-sponsored project. 

Ms. Chang represents the Board on the MetroEd Board of Trustees, serves on the California School Boards Association Delegate Assembly and as a Board Liaison on the District’s Budget Advisory Committee and Auditt Committee.  She was recognized as Woman of the Year for the California Assembly's 24th District in March 2010 for her decades of service to the community. 
 

Doug Ramezane.jpgDouglas Ramezane :  Clerk.  Term expires, 2014 (Elected November, 2010) had been a high school educator for 38 years, prior to his retirement in 2009.  He served as Assistant Principal at Los Gatos High School from 1998-2005 and then as Principal from 2005-2009, and was the lead LGHS administrator for the school’s Measure B renovation.  Mr. Ramezane now mentors new school administrators through the New Teacher Center in Santa Cruz.

 He has been active in the Los Gatos Lions Club for the last ten years and served on the New Millennium Foundation Board for LGHS for four years.  He has three grown children, two of whom are local teachers.

rrossi.jpgRosemary Rossi, Vice-President.  Term Expires: 2012, (Elected in November, 2008, 2004)  is a retired high school science teacher.  She has been active in public education since 1997 serving as a school board member and president of the Home and School Association in Lower Merion, Pennsylvania.  Ms. Rossi is the parent of four children, three of whom graduated from Saratoga High School.  She has served as co-president of the Saratoga High School PTSA, a member of the PTSA Board, member of the Saratoga School Site Council and as co-president of Saratoga-Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Newcomers Club.  She serves as a Board Liaison on the District’s Budget Advisory Committee.

vanzuiden.jpgMichele H. van Zuiden, Member.  Term Expires: 2014, (Elected in November 2006; re-elected in November 2010), is the Executive Director of The Women’s Hospital of El Camino in Mountain View, CA and has more than 30 years of experience as a business executive.  She holds an MBA from UCLA and has been a resident of Los Gatos and Monte Sereno for 28 years.  She has two children who both graduated from Los Gatos High School.  Ms. Van Zuiden is a Court Appointed Child Advocate in Santa Clara County, served on the Board of the Los Gatos High School New Millennium Foundation for seven years and was the Endowment Chair for the Los Gatos Education Foundation.  Ms. van Zuiden represents the Trustees and is on the Executive Committee of the Santa Clara County School Boards’ Association and serves as a Board Liaison on the District’s Health Benefits Advisory Committee. 

tlorrie.jpgLorrie Wernick,Ed.D. Member. Term Expires: 2012, (Elected November, 2008, 2004 and 1996 and appointed in lieu of election November, 2000) is a thirty five year resident of the District and is the parent of three children, all of  whom graduated from Los Gatos High School. During her tenure on the board, Dr. Wernick has served as Board President, Vice President and Clerk.  She is currently an educator in the Santa Clara Unified School District, working in both high school and middle school.  She has served as a principal and as the Director of Special Education in the Cupertino Union School District; Director of Special Education for Loma Prieta School District and Principal of C.T. English and Thomas Russell Middle Schools.  Dr. Wernick is past President of the Lakeside Community Foundation and past Chairman of the Board of Los Gatos-Saratoga Observation Nursery School;  she served as Vice President of the Board of San Jose Chamber Music Society for ten years. Currently, she is the board member for Congregational Development for Congregation Shir Hadash.  She has represented the district on the Institute of Computer Technology Board. 

Joanna Lee.jpgJoanna Lee is a junior at Saratoga High School, and is honored to serve as student board representative for the 2011-2012 school year. Joanna has been actively involved in student council, serving as both freshman class vice president and sophomore class secretary. She also enjoys attending and staffing out-of-school leadership conferences. Joanna is also a member of her high school's newspaper, The Falcon, as the Head Art Director, and received a first place recognition in a journalism competition for her editorial cartoons. A violinist, she is one of the many talented student musicians in the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and is also an enthusiastic volunteer at Beautiful Mind, an organization dedicated to teaching art and music to the disabled. She is also a musician for the Silicon Valley Volunteer Orchestra, which rehearses during the school year and holds an annual benefit concert. During her free time, Joanna enjoys writing and playing in quartets with her friends. 

Marion Wellington.jpgMarion Wellington, a senior at Los Gatos High School, is thrilled to be serving as the Board Representative for the 2011-2012 school year.  Marion has been heavily involved in both academics and leadership at school, serving as both Board Representative and ASB President this year.  Outside school, Marion has pursued her passion for theater, both onstage and off.  She has acted, sung, danced, stage managed, directed and produced for the Childrens' Musical Theater of San Jose, Theatre in the Mountains, and the drama department at LGHS.  She is also very excited to be spearheading this year's AIDS Benefit Show.  In addition, she is a newscaster on the News at Noon at KCAT.  In addition, Marion works at Natural Expressions and is a Girl Scout.  She loves music, the Santa Cruz mountains and making jewelry.
