New Board Officers Selected!
At last night's Board of Trustees Organizational Meeting, Rosemary Rossi was recognized for her service as President of the Board, 2013. A new slate of Board officers for 2014 were selected: Doug Ramezane, President; Michele van Zuiden, Vice-President; and Cynthia Chang, Clerk. Katherine Tseng and Rosemary Rossi will also continue to serve as Trustees and represent the Board on various district committees. Thank you to all of our Trustees for their dedication and hard work on behalf of our students and the community we serve!
Cynthia Chang: Clerk. Term Expires: 2014 (Appointed in lieu of election 1998 and 2002 and reelected 2006 and 2010) is a self-employed CPA. She holds an MBA from California State University, Los Angeles. Ms. Chang was a member of the Saratoga Union School District Board from 1994-98 and served as Treasurer for both the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District and the Saratoga Union School District school facility measures campaigns (1997 and 1998). She is past President of the Asian Pacific Islander School Board Members Association and served on the Executive Board of “Building Bridges,” a Saratoga Rotary Club-sponsored project.
Ms. Chang represents the Board on the MetroEd Board of Trustees, serves on the California School Boards Association Delegate Assembly and as a Board Liaison on the District’s Budget Advisory Committee and Health Benefits Advisory Committee. She was recognized as Woman of the Year for the California Assembly's 24th District in March 2010 for her decades of service to the community.
Douglas Ramezane : President. Term expires, 2014 (Elected November, 2010) had been a high school educator for 38 years, prior to his retirement in 2009. He served as Assistant Principal at Los Gatos High School from 1998-2005 and then as Principal from 2005-2009, and was the lead LGHS administrator for the school’s Measure B renovation. Mr. Ramezane now mentors new school administrators through the New Teacher Center in Santa Cruz.
He has been active in the Los Gatos Lions Club for the last ten years and served on the New Millennium Foundation Board for LGHS for four years. He currently serves as the Board Representative to KCAT and Liaison to the Parcel Tax Oversight Committee. He has three grown children, two of whom are local teachers.
Rosemary Rossi, Trustee. Term Expires: 2016, (Elected in November 2012, 2008, 2004) is a retired high school science teacher. She has been active in public education since 1997 serving as a school board member and president of the Home and School Association in Lower Merion, Pennsylvania. Ms. Rossi is the parent of four children, three of whom graduated from Saratoga High School. She has served as co-president of the Saratoga High School PTSA, a member of the PTSA Board, member of the Saratoga School Site Council and as co-president of Saratoga-Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Newcomers Club. She serves as a Board Representative on the District’s Budget Advisory Committee and Health Benefits Advisory Committee.
Katherine Tseng : Trustee. Term Expires: 2016 (Elected November, 2012) has been active in our school community for fourteen years and has served as Co-President for the Saratoga High School PTSO, Redwood Middle School PTA, Argonaut Elementary School PTA, Saratoga Education Foundation, Music Boosters, Saratoga High School Foundation and as a member of the Executive Board of Saratoga High School Sports Boosters. She has served for six years on the advisory board of the Saratoga Union School District and for the past year on the LGSUHSD Superintendent's Advisory Council. She was one of the co-chairs of the LGSUHSD Parcel Tax, Measure A campaign - successfully leading the passage of the first ever district parcel tax. She currently serves as the Liaison to the District Audit Committee. She holds an M.A. in Statistics and has 15 years business experience as an actuarial consultant. She is the parent of two children, one an SHS graduate and one a current student of Saratoga High School.
Michele H. van Zuiden, Vice-President. Term Expires: 2014, (Elected in November 2006; re-elected in November 2010), is the Executive Director of The Women’s Hospital of El Camino in Mountain View, CA and has more than 30 years of experience as a business executive. She holds an MBA from UCLA and has been a resident of Los Gatos and Monte Sereno for 28 years. She has two children who both graduated from Los Gatos High School. Ms. Van Zuiden is a Court Appointed Child Advocate in Santa Clara County, served on the Board of the Los Gatos High School New Millennium Foundation for seven years and was the Endowment Chair for the Los Gatos Education Foundation. Ms. van Zuiden represents the Trustees and is on the Executive Committee of the Santa Clara County School Boards’ Association and serves as a Board Liaison on the District’s Health Benefits Advisory Committee and Liaison to the Parcel Tax Oversight Committee.
Manini Desai is a senior at Saratoga High School and is proud to be serving as the student board representative for the 2013-2014 school year. Manini has been involved in student council for the past two years, as a sophomore class representative and the junior class secretary. At school she is also highly involved in the drama department where she has been part of seven shows, her favorite role being Millie in the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. Manini also wrote a play selected for the Youth Playwright Project. She directed the show The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. This year she will be serving as the department's Outreach Director. She is involved in her school's Speech and Debate club where she participates in the category of Humorous Interpretation. Outside of school, Manini is a classically trained Odissi dancer. In her free time, she enjoys singing, hiking, baking and reading.
Rebecca Lysaght is a senior at Los Gatos High School and is proud to be serving as a student board representative for the 2013-2014 school year. Rebecca has been involved in student government since her freshman year, serving as a member of the freshman cabinet, sophomore class president and junior class president. She is captain of the Los Gatos varsity water polo team and a member of the West Valley water polo club team. Outside of school, Rebecca is an important part of Peer-to-Peer education programs such as Shifting Perceptions and Reality Check. She enjoys volunteering at community events, fundraising for local charities and tutoring local students. In her spare time, Rebecca likes to relax, spend time with her family and friends and stay active.
