Parcel Tax Oversight Committee

Accepting Applications

The Los Gatos - Saratoga Joint Union High School District is currently seeking applicants to serve on its Parcel Tax Oversight Committee.

You, the voters, recently approved a “no tax increase” extension of the high school district’s $49/parcel tax.  As part of the district’s commitment to accountability and transparency, the district has created an independent citizens’ Oversight Committee which annually reviews the District’s compliance with the terms of Measure A.  The committee includes parents/guardians and community members.

Applications are available by clicking here.  Individuals may also stop by the Superintendent’s Office at 17421 Farley Road West, Los Gatos or email jmarashian@lgsuhsd.org to obtain an application.  All applications are due by July 7, 2017 at 4:00 p.m.  Applications will be reviewed by the LGSUHSD Board of Trustees at their August 22, 2017 meeting.

On May 3, 2011 voters in the Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District demonstrated their support for our students and our schools by passing Measure A - a district parcel tax of $49/parcel, designed to provide a source of locally controlled funding to be used to continue to provide a top quality education for our students.

While there is no legal requirement for a citizen oversight committee for parcel tax funds, Measure A stated explicitly "the Board of Education will establish a process for independent citizen oversight."  The committee has been charged with reviewing expenditure reports and ensuring Measure A funds are spent for the following purposes, stipulated by the Measure:

  • Provide support for core academic programs such as math, science and English;
  • Attract and retain highly qualified teachers;
  • Maintain college and career preparation programs;
  • Provide classroom materials such as books and science laboratory equipment.
